Northend’s Calixta (pronounced Calista)
DOB: August 20, 2018
MDR# pending brown/white spot 20 3/4″
Sire: Dogwood Hills Topper
Dam: Cabinwood’s Good Morning Millie
Last foal of the season but not least and well worth the wait!!! Please welcome to this world Northend’s Calixta (pronounced Calista) in the morning around 8:15 am. Perfect birth, perfectly beautiful little jennet foal! I’ve named her after a foal I lost in 2011 who was named after a character in one of my favorite short stories…The Storm by Kate Chopin. I do believe this girl may be a keeper!
Topper and Millie have outdone themselves again!

Sire: Dogwood Hills Black Echo 31 1/4″
MDR# pending 20″ @birth dark spot
DOB: May 9, 2018
Petey came into this world on his feet and raring to get into wherever his curiosity could lead him! He was just a little guy at birth and continues to be small in stature but big in personality! He has a great conformation and both parents are good looking donkeys with solid pedigrees. Petey will be a fine young stud and could even possibly carry the ivory gene. With or without it, he is a cute little guy!
Welcome to this world Petey!!

Sire: Dogwood Hills Black Echo 31 1/4″
MDR# pending 22″ @birth dark gray
DOB: April 24, 2018
Lady Malinda was a first time mom and because our herdsire is her sire, she had to be sent out for breeding last year to another farm. I had no idea what to expect in her foal but what a beautiful little jennet! Very correct and with great bone and proportion and such a nice dark steel colored gray she is…and wow…that black cross and ears and socks really add some contrast! A gorgeous little donkey girl and an ivory carrier, too!
MDR# pending 22 1/2″ @birth Drk Brown/black/ white spot
DOB: February 12, 2018
Nicoal and Topper give us Northend Acres very first foal on the ground on Abraham Lincoln’s birthday!! ….and what a beauty she is! A very cold and clear evening for little Abigail’s arrival but she was up and nursing in a jiffy! Nicoal is our most seasoned mother so Abigail was in good hands.
It was an uneventful no drama birth for Miss Maggie but this little guy is far from a no drama foal. He is gorgeous in every way. A perfect little jack. So far I can’t find a fault on him anywhere! I can’t call him a no light point since his muzzle is light although not white so not sure exactly what he is…other then just a beautiful little fellow!
Welcome to this world Cabinwood’s Sidney!
Cabinwood’s Mocha Bean
~SOLD
Dam: Furball Acres Jelly Bean
Sire: Dogwood Hills Topper
MDR# pending 22 1/2″ @birth very dk brown/white spot/blaze face
DOB: March 26, 2017
Jelly Bean is a pro at having these foals and she did herself proud with this beautiful foal! Mocha Bean is the spitting image of her mom Jelly Bean except for a bigger white spot under her chin! She practically came out running on a pair of racehorse legs and was nursing in a jiffy! Looks good all the way around and is going to be a real eye-catcher when she gets out in the pasture!
Welcome to this world Cabininwood’s Mocha Bean!
Cabinwood’s Lorna Doone*
DOB: March 17, 2017
MDR# pending 18″ @birth Dark Ivory
Sire: Dogwood Hills Topper
Dam: Cabinwood’s Bernadette
A very cold March and a foot of snow and Bernadette decided it was time to have her foal! The big surprise was the color….wow! Never really suspected an ivory out of Bernie and Topper since even though Topper is recessive ivory no one in Bernie’s background had ever been verified as an ivory carrier but there she was… Tiny little dark ivory girl of only 18 inches and struggling to stand and get the nursing thing handled… but so far, she’s got her Irish on and all is going well!
*Sadly we lost little Doonie after her first few days of life. She was very small and had some problems from the beginning and just wasn’t strong enough to overcome them. We will miss raising this special foal 😦
Cabinwood’s Susan Ellen
~SOLD
DOB: March 13, 2017
MDR# pending 21″ @birth dk brown/white spot
Sire: Dogwood Hills Topper
Dam: Cabinwood’s Good Morning Millie
You’d think after all these years I’d see it coming but when our first foal of 2017 arrived last night during a cold and snowy front passing through NEOhio’s snowbelt…..I missed it! Not by much though and then it didn’t take long to get Mother and foal bedded down in a stall! Please welcome Cabinwood’s Susan Ellen, a gorgeous dark brown and white spotted jennet foal out of our Cabinwood’s Good Morning Millie and the Top man himself, Dogwood Hills Topper! Millie is a first time mom and so far is doing a great job under some pretty adverse conditions outside.
The 2016 foals of Cabinwood Farm
Cabinwood’s Colorado Carolyn
DOB: August 3, 2016
MDR# pending very dk brown
Sire: Furball Acres Jokers Wild
Dam: Assphalt Acres Nicoal
First time ever I’ve not been here in town to see a foal born! The best laid plans as I booked a flight to Colorado the first of the month thinking my last foal would be due at the end of the month…well, Nicoal had a different plan and ended up foaling the day after I left! A beautiful baby jennet foal came without anyone’s help at all and Nicoal thankfully is the perfect mother. Miss Carolyn, or C3 as she is now being called, NEVER stands still…ever! Good teeth, good legs and good everything this alert little girl may be a keeper! She is the last foal out of my now gelded breeding jack Joker’s Wild.

What a wonderful Mother’s Day present this was to find in the barn after spending the day with my family! This little jennet brings together my entire breeding program for the last 10 years combining Furball Acres, Dogwood Hills, Merry-go-round Minis and now Cabinwood Farm into a nice little dark spotted jennet who could possibly carry ivory like her ancestors!

This little gal just couldn’t wait a half hour for me to get home and I missed the birth completely! She was waiting for me wide eyed and excited when I pulled in the driveway and ran to the barn. What a beauty she is all straight and full boned and with a great personality to match! I’ve had her Great grnadmother, her grandmother and her mother now having foals here at Cabinwood and each and every one is as nice as the one before her!

I do NOT recommend anyone ever do this to ring in the new year but as expected…after all the unseasonably warm temperatures we have had for months in NEOhio, our first foal of 2016 decides to arrive as the temperatures plunge into the single digits!! The most beautiful morning I have seen in a very long time..clear and crisp, 5 degrees with a wonderful bright crescent moon and the sky full of sparkling diamond stars…someone had created a masterpiece for this donkey’s birth! Please welcome to this world Cabinwood’s Michelangelo…a perfect very dark ivory jack by sire Dogwood Hills Quicksilver and out of Dam Furball Acres Mon Ami!

I knew when I bred Ally that there was always the possibility she might reject her foal again. It was two years earlier I spent the winter raising our Bernadette, the very first foal Ally had rejected and the first foal I had ever had to raise before. This time at least it is warm outside and not the dead of winter!
JEEP is named after a rough and tough vehicle because he has a rough road to travel after being rejected by his Mom.

Every year someone special gets a donkey named after them. This year our first boy is named after My Friend Michael A. Chaffee, a pretty tough guy himself with an independent attitude and one heck of a photographer!
Abraham was a special boy for more than just the obvious. Because he was born of a maiden jennet and because he is a boy, he will now become part of an Orthodox Jewish ceremony called The Redemption of the First born Donkey. Rabbi Aharon Lebovics and his family have waited patiently all summer long hoping for a first born jack out of a maiden jennet here at Cabinwood Farm and last night their hopes were rewarded!
Shalom and Welcome to this world Little Abraham!
These photos were taken by Aaron Denton Photography at the Mitzvah of Peter Chamor, The Redemption of the First Born Donkey Ceremony on October 9, 2011.

Blue-eyed white (Ivory) MSF (masked spotting factor)
It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart I must announce that we lost Liberty Bell Grace, Calixta and Sally Ruth to a deadly illness that swept through our farm during the third week of August 2011. They were all such beautiful foals that I hoped would become part of our future breeding program here at Cabinwood and elsewhere. I will miss them all very much. RIP sweet Grace, Calixta and Sally Ruth. You will be in our hearts forever.
Our many thanks go out to Dr. Cindy Jackson and the Equine Specialty Hospital in Burton, OH for her knowledge, professionalism and the caring hearts of all at the hospital in helping us through this tragic and heartbreaking time. We will be forever grateful.
